Summary
A CIA intelligence information report (no. FIRK-311/01638-73), not finally evaluated, draws on a former Soviet citizen for information on the Sary Shagan weapons testing range, including System-75 (SA-2) and System-300/Aldan (ABM-1 GALOSH) warheads and hearsay of laser-weapon experiments involving "powerful antennas." It says that one evening in late summer 1973 at Site 7, while watching a Canada–USSR sports event on TV, the source stepped outside and saw "an unidentified sharp (bright) green circular object or mass" west of the site at about 70 degrees; within 10–15 seconds it widened, concentric green circles formed, and within minutes the color disappeared. There was no sound, and the source "had no opinion" on what it was.
