Summary

A U.S. Air Force Air Intelligence Information Report says a B-52 from Castle AFB, California, flying a Strategic Air Command mission, picked up an unidentified aircraft on its A-3A gunnery scope at 39,000 feet at night. The return stayed on the scope for roughly five to seven minutes, then disappeared to the left after the B-52 banked; the report notes this may have been caused by the bomber's change in direction. Its stated significance: the return appeared where no aircraft were expected.

Note

A radar-only contact with no visual sighting — the report itself flags a mundane possible cause for the disappearance.
