Summary
The 5004th Air Intelligence Service Squadron reports that a Gambell resident and Alaska National Guard sergeant saw a steady, flashlight-colored light on the horizon west of Gambell for about five minutes until it went out "as though someone had turned it off." No other villagers saw it, and no land lies on that bearing for a considerable distance. The preparing officer, Capt. John V. Wright, says no conclusion can be reached but "a possibility exists that the light came from a ship at sea."
Note
Coords are the observer's position at Gambell as given in the report, not the light's location.
